What are cost management tools that would be most effective for American Airlines in controlling total costs?

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Determine what cost management tools would be most effective for AMR Corp. (American Airlines) in controlling costs.

Hedging fuel costs more accurately and effectively, cutting advertising costs by utilizing only the most effective forms of advertising and dropping that which has questionable value, and cutting executive pay and compensation.

A more uniform fleet of aircraft would mean a cost savings, too. Southwest operates one aircraft in 3 models and saves a fortune in parts and maintenance. Not to mention needed fewer employees to service and operate their fleet.

Switch to Knowledge Management?

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

I am a software engineer in Microsoft technologies and primarily involved in Business application development, however I am quite dissatisfied with that and want to switch in knowledge management , which I am greatly passionate about, I would like to know what type of skills and training I need to have before I make this switch. I am in San Diego, so any local resources would be greatly appreciated.

-Thanks in advance

how to start a career in business/management consulting?

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

So in about 1 month I will graduate from business studies, and I was wondering how and where to start so I will become a management consultant (the person that analyzes and creates strategies)

And how much time would I need realistically to reach to a level where I would be actually given the responsibility to create strategies and decide about the future of some organization?

thanks in advance

It depends on the type of your diploma (under-graduate or post-graduate), number of years of experience, and skills/knowledge that certain positions you are able to obtain in the career path in management consultancy.

For example, at McKinsey, if you have only a university degree, you can just become a business analyst, not more. If you have a master degree + experience + skills, you may climb to Associate, then Engagement Manager, then Associate Principle …or specialist, then expert, then, Associate Principle… If you want to know more about these titles and the ladder in details, please visit here
http://www.mckinsey.com/careers/is_mckinsey_right_for_me/roles_and_career_paths.aspx

You may also check out PriceWaterHouseCoopers website to see their career path.

These two companies are the world top consultancy companies where you may want to have your start (maybe as an intern first). Of course there are others out there you may consider.

Good luck!

what are the highesst paying jobs for someone with a business management degree?

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

I’ll be graduating in December with my bachelor’s in business management. What type of jobs are the highest paying? Is there really anything in the federal government that I can focus on?

The Answer Queen is right. The only truly high-paying occupation is self-employment. Any job you get, you should be thinking about how it can be a stepping stone toward that goal of going into business for yourself. Government jobs tend to be lower-paying than industry, and dead-end to boot.

In the meantime, doesn’t your college have a career placement service??

How project management software are helpful as desktop application or Online Service?

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

There are so many project management software/service available? Which one is really good?

I have to go with ‘Web-Based Software’ and here’s why…

First, what is web-based software anyway?

Web-Based Software is software you use over the internet with a web browser. You don’t have to install any CDs, download any software, or worry about upgrades. If you use an online bank or web-based email program like Gmail, Hotmail, or Yahoo Mail then you’ve already used web-based software before.

And why is it better for my business?

When you use web-based software you don’t have to worry about anything technical — you can just do your work. They handle all the security and uptime and backups and upgrades and “IT guy” stuff. You can stay focused on what you’re good at and they’ll handle the rest.

Web-based software is safer. With traditional software, employees save data on their laptops, USB drives, or portable hard drives. It’s not as safe as it sounds. Laptops are stolen, computers are rarely backed up properly, and it’s unlikely everyone’s machines are up to date with the latest security patches and updates. When you use our web-based software, your data is stored on secure, always-updated, backed-up daily enterprise-class servers in a state-of-the-art, highly-secure data center.

They walk the walk with you. They use their products every day. They store all their sensitive, confidential data on the same servers that their customers use. They trust their entire business to their products and security policies. You can feel comfortable that they’re walking the walk with you.

Everything together in one place. A key advantage to web-based software is that all your data is centralized and accessible over the web from any computer at any time. You can’t leave something on the wrong computer since everything is stored in one place on the web. You can get to it from anywhere. Safe, secure, and password protected, of course.

Your data is automatically backed up daily. Your data is backed up every day. Their backups are stored in multiple locations for additional redundancy. You could say their backups have backups. They’ve never lost anyone’s data and they won’t lose yours.

Your data is safe and secure. Their state-of-the-art servers are protected by biometric locks and 24-hour surveillance. Their software and infrastructure is updated regularly with the latest security patches. The traffic on their network flows behind an enterprise-class firewall to keep your data safe.

You’re always using the latest and greatest. Unlike traditional software that requires you to download and install updates yourself, their products are updated automatically. Whenever you use their products you’re always using the latest and greatest version.

There’s nothing to install, ever. With their software there’s nothing to download or install. Just log in with the web-browser you already have (Internet Explorer 7, Safari, or Firefox). It’s just like your online bank or web-based email program.

You’ll never have to ask “Is it compatible?” Software used to only be available for certain platforms. There was Windows software, Mac software, etc. Their software works on any platform with a web browser and internet connection. Mac, Windows, Linux are all supported.

Everyone you trust has access to the data. Since everyone you work with logs into the same centralized account, you have a single database with everything in one place. No more worrying about who has the latest information: Everyone has it.

You can work from home, work, or on the road. When you use web-based software your office is everywhere. At work, at home, a hotel, at a client’s office, even on your mobile phone. You data is accessible anywhere with internet access.

what is the differrence betwween strategic management and adminstration?

Strategic management is the art and science of formulating, implementing and evaluating cross-functional decisions that will enable an organization to achieve its objectives[1]. It is the process of specifying the organization’s objectives, developing policies and plans to achieve these objectives, and allocating resources to implement the policies and plans to achieve the organization’s objectives. Strategic management, therefore, combines the activities of the various functional areas of a business to achieve organizational objectives. It is the highest level of managerial activity, usually formulated by the Board of directors and performed by the organization’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and executive team. Strategic management provides overall direction to the enterprise and is closely related to the field of Organization Studies.wiki

how long will it take for a bldng management to change a fridge???

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

we recently moved to an apartment.. unfortunately the appliances are way over old. and the fridge is killing us. how many years for them to replace it? and how are we going to tell them to change them right away on a letter? help.
how do i break it? i think imma need it asap if i break it cause i cook like everyday. well, the only reason is there is no door handle. and the eggs keep on falling on thir places cause the divider is loose. the vegetable shelf is broken too. but so far the fridge is working. how do i tell them?

Apartments are not required to supply refrigerators. This is just a fun thought. Buy your own. The one of your dreams. So when you move and buy a home you will already have one and you will not have to spend the money when you need it most to buy your home. I have dreamed of one of those side by side fridges that have the little door that opens for sodas with the ice and water in the door. Just a thought. It could be fun. It sounds like you cook a lot so spoil yourself. You will feel much better.
